I was supposed to prepare some Jewish food items for a cultural day at my school. You’d think that would be no problem but I am a horrible cook! I decided to borrow recipes from the neighbor lady whom I knew had a Jewish background. She was excited by my request and decided to dig out some old family recipes. Well lo and behold, these old recipes were actually written down in Hebrew. We finally had to look up the ingredients in a Jewish dictionary! It was actually really fun and I think it helped jog my neighbor’s memory to start thinking in her other language.
