The Disadvantages of Using Homemade Soap Recipes

June 25th, 2008 by admin

Even though many people are interested in homemade soap recipes, there can be some disadvantages to making soap.  Among other things, many recipes call for the addition of lye.  Unfortunately, many stores have been forced to stop selling lye because it is also used in the formulation of illegal drugs.  Many soap recipes also rely on the usage of animal fats.  Typically, you will need to boil the fat, which will produce a noxious odor.  In addition, if you are concerned about the way commercial farm animals are raised, it is likely you will not want to work with animal fats at all.  That said, you can still locate plant based recipes that do not use lye or animal fats.
