Hawthorne berry (Crataegus oxyacantha) is a popular herbal remedy historically used for digestive problems and insomnia. Today, it is widely used to by people who are worried about heart disease and circulatory health. Hawthorne nutritional supplements can be an excellent source of bioflavonoids which are compounds that enhance the positive effects of Vitamin C and may potentially help support healthy walls of blood vessels. Hawthorne berry is believed to help support healthy blood pressure while at the same time supporting a strong heart muscle. Herbalists believe it can maybe help increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart and has been used to relieve shortness of breath in patients suffering with heart disease. Studies are needed to verify these theories, but some initial studies have indicated that it may enhance athletic performance by improving stamina and endurance.
