Insurance Charges More For Obesity

Insurance companies may charge you more for being overweight if you’re not careful. In the United States, the obesity rate has been steadily increasing over the years.  In fact, it is so bad now that some insurance companies are actually dropping the "dead weight" from their plans.  Some airlines were even starting to charge obese people twice of what it would cost a regular, non-obese person for a seat on a plane because they argued that the person was taking up two seats (in essence, two people).  Was this unfair?  There is still much debate over the issue.  There is also the fact that obese people are costing the United States millions of dollars every year because along with the rise in obesity comes an increase in the number of medical conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Now, granted, some people who are obese truly have medical conditions which have contributed to their state.  However, for the vast majority of obese people, the weight gain is due, in part, to the fact that they have little self-control when it comes to eating food combined with a lack of exercise.
