Paying Inheritance Tax

March 29th, 2009 by admin

There are various ways which exist for determining the time for payment of inheritance tax UK.  It is sometimes possible to negotiate with HMRC to pay in installments, and you can also, on occasion, pay your bill by transferring ownership of your assets to the Crown.  An example would be that if you owned a valuable painting, you could donate it to a national museum in lieu of payment of an inheritance tax bill. Inheritance tax which is not paid in installments is generally due for payment in three different ways:  Chargeable lifetime transfers, estates, and PETs.  Inheritance tax is often due to be paid before the cash and assets left in a will are paid out to the beneficiaries, this in effect means that the beneficiaries will have to find the money to pay the inheritance tax bill from elsewhere.
